The Valcellina Award - at its 11th edition in 2019 - is the International Contemporary Textile/Fiber Art Competition, open to fiber artists under 35 years of age.
The Valcellina Award was established with the aims of stimulating curiosity in young artists about contemporary textile arts, fostering new talent, encouraging new artistic research and experimentation.
The past ten editions of the competition have seen the participation of artists from all around the world from a wide range of cultures, practises and education, making the Valcellina Award a space for learning, sharing experiences and
ideas.
The Valcellina Award is the most important event organised by Le Arti Tessili, which was founded in 1987 for the social promotion of cultural activities.
WE(H)AVE a play-on-words between “to weave” and “to have”.Fiber Arts become the interpreter of the present in a dialogue between the historical memory of traditional knowledge, seeking innovative visions: through artistic research, while elaborating cultural and social transformation.
To represent the WE(H)AVE theme of the 11th edition, the the scientific committee has chosen a detail of the work entitled Knot to Knot by Polish artist Magdalena Grenda, now part of the Valcellina Collection, which explores geometric principals with cord and knots, evoking the traditions of weaving and the uniqueness of the identities which represent it.
On Monday 27 January 2020 the first jury of the Valcellina Award 11th edition - We(h)ave met. The jury members were:
Eva Comuzzi, , art historian
Renata Pompas, journalist, essayist, expert in Fiber Art
Lydia Predominato, Fiber Artist and Fiber Art event curator
After a careful evaluation of the material received and compliant with the competition regulation, the jury selected the best works that will be show at the exhibition and will compete for the prizes to be won!
